Seven onsen surrounded by virgin beech forest.
Nyuto Onsen is 20 minutes by car or 50 minutes by bus from the Akita Shinkansen Tazawako Station, and located in the foothills of Mt. Nyuto in Towada-Hachimantai National Park. It is in fact seven onsen referred to together by the same name “Nyuto Onsen Village”.
The seven onsen are Kuroyu, Magoroku, Okama, Ganiba, Tsurunoyu, Kyukamura Nyuto Onsen Village, and Taenoyu. The seven onsen each have their own wellsprings, each with its own mineral characteristics.
The onsen village is surrounded by virgin beech forest, and the ability to enjoy the forest’s pure atmosphere is one of the village’s big drawcards. You will also have the opportunity to taste vegetables and mushrooms indigenous to the mountains, yet another way to enjoy the onsen village.
Aside from Tsurunoyu, the other six onsen within the onsen village are all within five to 20 minutes’ walk of each other. Tsurunoyu is slightly further away, but you can easily reach it with an easy hour’s walk. Purchase a “Yumeguri” booklet and enjoy a tour around the Nyuto Onsen Village’s seven onsen.
